  • Rusty hues - the wine appears much older than it is. And it smells a bit roasty and pruney after decanting. Could be oxidized, although the work is fine and the capsule spun well. Or, it could be an old nebbiolo situation where the wine needs to sit in the decanter for a while. Swirling and repeated tasting makes it clear that while there is something lovely underneath, this wine is oxidized. Such a pity.

Fresh, lively and cool nose with bright mineral laced red fruit, slightly earthy flavors and a touch of meat. Palate is delicate, medium weight and elegant with youthful tannin, medium acidity and a long mouth coating but slightly dry finish. Very pretty with a nose I love and has upside at 93-94

  • Lunch at Pizzeria Bebu (Chicago, IL): I've never really been too fond of the Savigny bottlings, as I find them a bit more rustic and backwards than I personally like, but the Latricieres has generally fit my own preferences more. This has some of that classic sweet earth/beetroot flavour of 2006, as well as a generous helping of mixed red and black fruit. Earthy and coiled, but it's so clear the high quality of the material in this wine. Would love to see this in another few years when hopefully it uncoils a little more.

  • A beautiful nose of red and black cherry with loads of Gevrey meaty spice. An elegant feminine wine with still-youthful fruit and firm structure. The palate isn't as generous as the nose. Upside from here.

  • Less giving and more austere than imagined, needs more time. Pretty, deep ruby. Slightly vitamin nose and medicinal, pure, dry palate.

(LATRICIERES-CHAMBERTIN Simon Bize) Simon Bize #2 Dear Friends, I told you last week how good the 2006 Simon Bize portfolio is and most of the wines would be considered very strong buys. The top two wines (the Vergelesses and Latricieres-Chambertin) are just not available and I’ve been trying to get a small allocation since last summer - we received so many inquiries asking for both of these (after Burghound came out last week) that I’m well aware the demand far outstrips the supply from Bize. The parcel below is very small - please exercise patience with Niki and Melisa. Please let us know how many bottles of each you are interested in and we will send you a confirmation in the next day or so. The prices should be about the same as in France: 2006 Simon Bize Savigny-les-Beaune “Aux Vergelesses” EXTREMELY LIMITED (this is one of the more exciting wines I tasted in Burgundy a few weeks ago - it’s really a breath of fresh air and a throwback to the 1950’s or 1960’s - to get Burgundy of this quality for $50-60 is just not the norm - especially with the 1.60 Euro disparity - an amazing red Burgundy) 2006 Simon Bize Latricieres-Chambertin Grand Cru EXTREMELY LIMITED Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Burg6420 Burg6430
