Purchased off the clearance list at WA Frost restaurant in St. Paul MN, $38. Nice bottle of Gewurtz, but showing quite a bit of age. Not sure how well it was cellared, but I don't think it was in perfect conditions. Nonetheless, it showed spicy, honeyed notes of beeswax, clove, mace, ripe apple. If you have some of these, I'd drink them soon.

Initially the nose was disjointed, the wine was overly sweet and showing nothing else, and I was wondering what happened. But then after about 1 1/2 hours and warming up a touch the balance came back and the gwertz personality come through. Honey and lychee nose, concentrated sweet nectoar like fruit on the initial taste motoring into a long drawn out spicy finish. Yum now.

With vietnamese beef stir fry with mushroom and chive -ginger mojo: Lychee nut nose with just a hint of sweetness. Still intense on the palate with a bit of acid-spritz. Ginger and a bit of quinine on the palate with the faintest hint of sweetness. Very good with the dish

In good shape but I didn’t love. Soft, smoke and lychee, slightly cloying finish. B-/C+

Well past its prime but beautiful golden color and still nice with oysters and hot sauce.
