Easily could have been a 90, but just missed that something special. Still drinking well, but if you have some it is not going to get any better. Like all good rhones you really can taste the earth. Nice finish. Blackberry, tar, licorice, and the barnyard, but restrained as it is losing some of its power with age. Much more powerful five years ago, but still a very nice glass of wine. I believe this was Guigal's first vintage with this parcel so originally was heavily discounted which made it an even better buy at the time.
A good example of the Norhern Rhone for a value price. Clear deep purple color. Moderate gamey nose with blackberry, pepper, and leather that shows the grape variety very well. Nice balance and a moderate finish.
