Popped and poured. Garnet, with mild brick; fully translucent. On the nose, textbook aged Syrah; black currant, cured meat, campfire, green olives, herbs, mint, grass clippings, wet fur and undergrowth. On the palate, this finishes very long, with great acidity and concentration, replaying the various aromatic components from the nose; blackcurrant, olives, smoke and mélange of herbs. The structure is fully resolved, all components seamlessly integrated and drinking at or near its apogee. A triumph for the vintage. Well done.

Certainly not as good as the 88 next to it, but a very typical and correct Cornas. Feral with massive olive notes, with some good structure left, which was a bit of a surprise to me what what is generally viewed as a lighter vintage.

(Noël Verset Cornas) Group's #2 (my #1) – 63 pts.; 5, 0, 3, 1 – medium garnet red color with clear meniscus; sexy, sweeter, peppery sage and rosemary nose; lovely, like a mature Vieux Telegraphe or Beautcastel, smoky palate with sage and tart plum; medium-plus finish

A mirror image of other '97 Verset bottles have had over the years-- terrific, drinking beautifully but w/ lots of runway.

This has been consistently great. Nothing like Verset...

Had a briny meat with silky dusty fruit. Low acid. Not nearly as expressive as the 96 but still a good drink.
