  • A dangerously deep golden in the glass. Why is this important? If you don't know what you're tasting, this could be an indication of both age, state and/or grape variety. The nose is all tertiary, errrrrthing, with a development that went a bit overboard. Charred nuts, cooked cream, ripe pineapple and hints of dried stone fruit. Seemed extremely mute the first 30 minutes, but really spread its wings afterwards (easy to write off as "past its prime"). Even though lower than expected for a Chardonnay (but as expected for an aged on), the acidity keeps this train running smoothly, blending in with the alcohol and highlighting what is left of the fruit. On the other hand, as it's losing intensity, it's also loosening its grip and length, making it more enjoyable for scientific analysis than for drinking.

  • Dark color. Started off slightly more mature/ advanced than I would hope, with lots of ripe peach, honeycomb and butterscotch. Freshened up slightly with air, getting more robust and longer as well. Best once open 20-30 minutes, this remained charming for the next two+ hours.

  • Worrying golden colour, but no premox in sight. Very subtle, mineral wine that should be savoured and discussed. Not an easy wine to just kick back with.... You can tell I don't drink too much of these!

  • Colour is good but quite nutty on the nose with a strong smell of aldehyde. It starts of linear in the mouth with some honeycomb and citrus. It sweetens up from the heart and has some ripe peach notes. It has some mushroom development and decent acidity holdng the whole package together. Not oxidised but absolutely ready to go.
