  • dark and opaque. needed air to open up. nose is a little dusty, sweet, fruit fwd, blackberry, cedar, mint. palate is supple, balanced, slightly sweet on entry, dark chocolate, plum, then more savoury on the close, with nice herbal and soy notes. fantastic.

  • Three vintages of Redigaffi side by side. 2000/2010/2015. No detailed notes taken. I was underwhelmed by all three wines as all of them showed a touch too ripe but especially as all three wines showed alcohol heat towards the finish, which I particularly dislike. In terms of complexity and definition the wines had good but not great levels. Best wine was the 2000 (94pts) which showed most layered with a good fruit core, earthy notes but not tertiary aromas yet, all embedded in a fine structure with a good velvety texture but a bit of heat. The 2015 (92pts) had an intriguing sweetness and good structural frame but unfortunately was a bit one-noted and showed most heat. I’ve had this wine in its early days after bottling and it showed amazing, far better, more complex and without the heat. Every bottle since was weaker than the previous on (from 97 pts to 95, to 94 and now 92). The 2010 (91pts) is muted with not much expression and complexity showing. It showed the least heat but also least interesting. Maybe it will open up again in a few years.

Decanting: All wines have been decanted for roughly 2 hours and needed the time to open up. The 2010 could have probably used more air.

  • Tasted double-blind as part of a Redigaffi mini-vertical (2000, 2010, 2015). Tobacco, dried herbs, black tea, dark cherry, cedar wood and coffee flavours compose a broad, detailed and complex nose. Amazing tension with a structure still full of strength. However, the texture felt rather rough.

  • Bit rustic, more than expected.

  • Absolutely incredible wine! I agree with the previous reviewer that this has a "Cheval Blanc" quality to it. But this is more like Cheval Blanc on steroids. My guess was Masseto. The pure power and the energy in this wine were a sight to behold. Top contender for wine of the year so far.

P.S: I was pretty smashed by the time I had this wine so grain of salt.. :)
