  • Golden yellow. Nose of vanilla, lemon, mango. Taste mouthfilling, botrytis, lemon. Delish.

  • 14.5% alcohol. Cork of medium length and good density with large white crystals; there are even larger white deposits at the bottom of the bottle (I wonder if these are sugars). Dark colour similar to apple juice.
The nose is pleasant if a bit simple with quince and some faint oxidative notes. The mouth is a bit better with caramelised apple, reasonable acidity and a not unpleasant slightly bitter kick in the finish. The alcohol sticks out a bit.
Not bad at all, but not a patch on my last Sauternes (Nairac). I find this bottle somewhat lacking in finesse and complexity, and I cannot help wondering if it was chaptalised; I don't see this improving.
    Not a repeat purchase.

  • Dark gold, even bronze. Fruit is gone. Nose and palate of brown sugar, caramel and tannin on the finish.

  • Nice copper-gold colour. Open nose with a bouquet reminding me of pumpkin (like a Hungarian tokaj), caramel, cotton candy, fresh peaches and a touch of beeswax. You can tell that the grapes developed botrytis. In the mouth, the aromas are similar to those on the nose, but the fresh peach is replaced with peaches in syrup (canned peaches). The attack is unctuous and sweet with a bit of acidity remaining to counter-balance the sugar. There is also a touch of bitterness on the moderately long finish. I didn't like this wine when I tasted it 3 and 5 years ago, finding it harsh and un-interesting, but it has finally come into its own (from a 500mL bottle). The 2005 of the same wine was better younger, and I am curious if it will evolve as will as this one finally did. Good wine, good de Malle.

Belle couleur or-cuivre.

  • Served with chocolate parfait, didn't have high hopes, but this has held well and expressed classic Sauternes style. Drink up.
