  • This was a very enjoyable bottle, especially one with so much bottle age on it. I would have this bottle anytime! It must have had some Sangiovese in it, and it had some almost Barolo/Piemonte-style Nebbiolo qualities to it as well. Rustic, dried cherries, leather, tobacco, and loads of tannin which is impressive. Although it is drinking very nicely now, it may be off putting for people who are sensitive to highly tannic wines. Just as with almost any Italian wine, only have it with food. You will enjoy it just that much more!!

  • Nice, restrained, but somewhat tight.

  • Despite our best efforts, there are some things that just can't be measured in points. Like this wine, a perfect example of the kind of soulful experience that a wine can bring when it's true to place, true to type, and given the time to grow into itself. This is not the kind of wine to send the critics gushing, but it just makes you sigh with total contentment when you smell and drink it. Everything is in balance, everything is right with the world. Nose of tobacco, dried berries or cherries, aromatic cedar, and earth. The palate is so silky smooth, the tannins resolved more or less completely. Lovely blackberry and truffle flavors glide through the mouth. It's full bodied but drinks effortlessly, the finish lingering gently.
