  • Glass: Zalto Bordeaux and Burgundy
Popped and poured, drunk over two days. Clear, deep, inky ruby color with garnet edges and little, fine sediment.
Clean, pronounced and developing nose with cassis, tar, oak, spices, dried petals and some barn. Complex and beautiful.
On the palate dry, medium+ acidity, very well integrated. High, velvet tannin. Lots of spices, pepper, herbs and tar mixed with some interesting, clear cassis. Beautiful balance and texture, very harmonious, but also deep and dense. Long and lingering complex finish. For me at its peak, but no hurry at all. 93-94

  • misses some "fraîcheur" (freshness) but otherwise a great showing

  • Very powerful nose dominated by animal notes, smokiness, black fruit, and spices. Very powerful wine, still very tannic but smooth, with surprisingly good acidity. Hits you with a jolt of sensations. Very masculine! Not a Valentine's day wine... Amazing wine. Needs decanting to remove sediments. But otherwise ready to drink.

(Ferraton Ermitage Le Meal) #1; COLOR-really dark; NOSE-a superb black tea component; very heavy tea meets Tobasco/jalapeno/black pepper; so tea and spicy; dark fruit (blackberry; blackcurrant and crushed blueberry) and a hint of floral potpourri action; nice nose; PALATE-this is the best wine of the bunch as this has the silkiness of Usseglio, but just tastes better and a little more complexity and creaminess; this wine is so meaty and so viscous and so thick and so powerful that I feel like biting it; this is like a Ivan Drago punch, but then caught and hugged by Cindy Crawford in her prime (the Pepsi commercial with her jean shorts); what I mean is that this is that the power is intense, but the polish, beauty, elegance and sexiness on the back-end is spectacular; this is just one delicious bottle of wine dominated by dark fruit surrounded by black tea and hinted with earthiness; the silkiness of this wine is just SICK; this is spectacular; RP-93; WS-94; GV-95
