This wine was pop and pour with most of the bottle drank with dinner two hours after opening. The color is a clear dark garnet with just a bit of browning around the edges. Initially this wine shows a lot of acidity and tannin. On the nose smoke, tobacco, dark fruit and earth. The palate is super spicy with medium and elegant fruit. An abundance of acidity and tannin... not sure which is causing the numbing sensation. Long tannic finish. Do not have a great deal of experience with Barolo but it is my guess this will go well with the Moose Stroganoff that is in the making. Don't think it would hurt to hold this a while longer.

Decanted for two hours. Nose of camphor and rose; on the palate, strong red berry fruit, without the jammy note sometimes found in 2003; a bit of rose; and noticeable tannins on the medium finish. While I have found many 2003 Barolos to be immediately accessible, this was simple, with little to no development of secondary flavors. This may have been opened some years too early. If I had thought about it, I would have saved some to see whether it would improve on the second day.

Beautiful nose but still a bit harsh on the palate. I believe that this wine needs a few more years in the cellar.

Sadly marred by VA. Will try again 24 hours corked in the bottle, but on the first night was un-drinkable.
