It is always an honour to open such old bottles, and it is never without some guilt that one does so. This was better than the first (bottle had no flaw) but not as graceful as the second. Personally it suited me fine as the sweetness was not as concentrated. I am generally very tough on Sauternes as I do not enjoy them much. Everyone at the table seemed to love it however!

The color was a deep amber, and the nose was a moderately sweet caramel, and was very promising. However, the wine was prickly in the mouth, and while we thought we should give the wine some time after having spent 77 years in a bottle, the prickliness did not pass. Actually, the wine was undergoing a second fermentation in the bottle. Tiny bubbles appeared on the sides of the glass. A most interesting phenomenon which unfortunately prevented the bottle from enjoying a much higher score.

A beautiful wine. Graceful, confident, and wise.
