Dessert Wine Tasting Party (Katie & Scott's House): believe it our not this was my WOTN. it was just a little more subtle and clean compared to the rest of the stickies. I went back for more, several times. Was the overall winner by the group as well.

As an "ice wine" it has the extreme sweetness one would expect, and the unmistakable riesling signature. There is a strong minerality, almost a steel or flint aroma and taste quite unlike any riesling I've tasted before. A raisiny undercurrent emerges at the back of the palate which I ascribe to the freezing process acting on the skins prior to pressing. Not having tasted that many "ice wines", I frankly didn't know what to expect. This one is certainly not boring!

I've had this wine several times in the past from other vintages or from the old Bonny Doon stock when they were making the same thing and this time around I was not nearly as happy with the results. For an icewine, even a faux icewine like this, there needs to be a little more sweetness and viscosity then what is present here. While there is a decent amount of residual sugar present, it just doesn't seem to manifest itself into a pleasing flavor in the wine itself. The texture is a bit thin and flavors are just not up to par with past offerings. Having said all of that, this is still drinkable but just nothing to get really excited about.
