  • Green gold, still pale and undeveloped. Nose of wet wool, pithy lime, buttered toast is emerging, lanolin and a beautiful texture, mouthfeel and long finish. Unlikely to oxidise, no chance of cork wood or taint. Day 3 and there’s vanilla bean, and I am reminded of TRE whites from the 70’s. Glorious wine, very complete and who knows how long these will last and how well they will develop under Stelvin seal. It will slowly become different but will different be better? 19.

  • Lime, lanolin, hint of toast and honey. Slate. Elegant and balanced, with a light to medium frame and good length. In a good spot, but could easily hold.

  • Pale to medium yellow in colour. This 2006 remains youthful and energetic despite 17 years passing, with extremely slow ageing under screwcap. Classic Hunter Semillon bottle age toast has emerged on the nose, along with some mineral and saline notes; light to medium-bodied, a kaleidoscope of flavours await - on entry, a lovely slate (a note similar to a great Mosel riesling) and white nectarine before a lime and lemon pith emerges, these flavours dance together along with saline touches. Elegant texture, and great palate intensity without much weight. Length to burn. Never fails to impress. 10.5% ABV. No rush with these - will be interesting to see how these continue to evolve with time. Note: tasting note taken maybe 4 hours after opening, with the wine decanted for 1 hour and then poured back into the bottle.

  • Christmas Wimps 2022 - A Letter from Santa Claus (La Trompette): Glorious, savoury nose; I'm not a synesthete but my reaction to it was 'green and gold' rather than any particular aroma. The palate showed the expected intriguing combination of lime cordial and toasty cream, and the mouthfeel was delightfully soft and easy. Finally, the way the wine fanned out on the finish was simply sensational. I should buy more of these, particularly since this bottle was only a refreshing 10.5% ABV. Surprisingly failed to cope with the sashimi and rhubarb, though, where the other whites and sparklers did.

  • Remarkably, still a medium pale to medium yellow. Big, deep, tart, citrus nose. Big citrus flavours, but has a relatively plush soft mouthfeel. It's a great impression, to have the soft texture with big acids and deep citrus flavours. Nice trick. But disappointingly, there is virtually no flavour evolution that one likes to see from an aged Semillon. Perhaps the screwcap is doing TOO good a job? Tasty but not the Wow I was hoping for.
