Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.1 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 82 notes)

Tasted by mmh on 9/5/2010 & rated 91 points: I really like this wine! Popped and poured. Really generous nose with leather, dark berries and wood. A bit tight on the palate but opened up after about 30min. Full bodied and nicely balanced tannins and acidity. Too bad I only have one 2004 left. (5 views)
Tasted by Viini-Viren on 8/20/2010 & rated 92 points: A great wine. Beautifully balanced cherry-leather-fruit mix with well integrated tannins. (395 views)
Tasted by NiklasW on 8/4/2010 & rated 90 points: Decanted for about 40 min. A really nice dark garnet to the rim, almost black core. The nose is expressive, with lots of barnyard, and nice smooth dark fruits. On the palate, bright acidity, red cherries, lively wine, good tannins, delicious! Yep, this is great stuff, and it was going for 10€ on Viking Line last year. Should have gotten a whole lot more. 50+5+11+16+8=90 (797 views)

Tasted by Viini-Viren on 7/15/2010 & rated 92 points: My favorite Chianti. A rich palette of taste and aroma. Leather, berries, fruit, HP sauce, stable. (869 views)

Tasted by GalvezGuy on 5/29/2010 & rated 91 points: Consistent with previous notes. Should probably try to find more, it is definitely worth it. (1329 views)
Tasted by twofthrs on 5/22/2010 & rated 94 points: A year later and still drinking well. Should hold another two years. (1448 views)
Tasted by aurbanik on 4/29/2010 & rated 91 points: Very rich aroma of fruits (prune, black cherry) and spices, with lots of nuances. Nicely built, powerful in mouth, has something very attractive which is hard to define. Outstanding QPR. (1653 views)

Tasted by patrickrains on 3/20/2010 & rated 92 points: decanted - wine was great. much better than last time. leather, tobacco and chocolate (1885 views)
Tasted by GalvezGuy on 3/1/2010 & rated 91 points: Popped and poured. Nose of pie cherry, black cherry, rose petals, tar, anise, leather, sage, and vanilla. On the palate, sour cherry, leather, spice, plum, tobacco, tar. Finishes with fine tannic grip and crisp acidity. Tremendous pairing with cherry sauced pork tenderloin. Outstanding. Drink or hold. Good value. (2257 views)
Tasted by WetRock on 2/28/2010: Chianti Blind at the Wine Club (The Wine Club, Santa Ana): Served blind. Big concentrated nose that shows ripe and rustic. Overall the palate was on the tight side but it did show off good wine making and pedigree. Juicy and balanced with ripe fruit and a classic profile. There was just something pretty and lovely about this one overall. Hard to pinpoint but that is what often makes an excellent wine. Should get better also. Easily the best wine on the day for me. (2269 views)
Tasted by concotter on 2/15/2010: Very enjoyable. Interesting mix of fruit, leather, and freshly cut grass on the nose. Texture exhibits good balance with firm tannins and nice acidity; a very dry wine as one would expect. Agreeable finish but shorter than I had hoped. A great value! (2576 views)
Tasted by newworldman on 2/11/2010 & rated 92 points: One of my favorite chiantis. Decanted 2 hours and really opened up. Dry, blackberry, leather, oak and smooth. Really nice. Highly recommend this wine. (2572 views)
Tasted by johnnyo on 2/6/2010 & rated 91 points: Fantastic! This is a classic representation of a Chianti Classico. After 30 minutes this medium-full bodied wine gave out a luscious mouth feel with vibrant red cherry, redcurrant, leather and a hint of tar followed by ample acidity and long pleasant finish. Great QPR (2587 views)

Tasted by CdP in NYC on 12/8/2009 & rated 91 points: Didn't taste quite as full as the last two bottles. Still great. (3367 views)
Tasted by NCO on 12/1/2009: This was a really good example of a nicely balanced, elegant wine with gorgeous mouthfeel and aftertaste. Give it some time because it really performed at its best at day 2 and day 3. Recommended! (3428 views)
Tasted by jkkane on 11/24/2009: Dense and multi-layered, but didn't have the time to let it evolve. (Restaurant purchase.) (3403 views)

Producer Location - Tenuta Tignanello (Google Maps)
The Antinori family has produced wine since 1385 when Giovanni di Piero Antinori joined the Florentine Winemakers Guild. Throughout its long history (across 26 generations) the family has always managed winemaking in person. Today, the company is managed by Marquis Piero Antinori. The company has dedicated great efforts to improving the quality of its wines, through careful planning of investments and research programs embracing all production aspects. The success of these programs has enabled the company to produce a superb range of quality wines from its various estates in Tuscany and Umbria. The Tignanello Estate is home to the famous Tignanello and Solaia vineyards. Located between the Greve and Pesa Valleys, in the heart of the Chianti Classic area, 30 kilometers south of Florence, Tignanello boasts 350 hectares of land with 147 hectares of vines. The vineyards are divided into small, individual areas over an area of 47 hectares at Tignanello, facing South-West, and the neighboring 10 hectares at Solaia, both with Cabernet and Sangiovese grapes that benefit from specific exposure and micro-climate.
