Lovely and rich bouquet of baking spices, lavender, port, a little pine resin, cherry liqueur and mulled wine. The palate is quite nice as well, with good weight and a fleshy midpalate but without being heavy or sweet. The finish is actually bright and it keeps things fresh. There's a hint of heat, but nothing excessive. Seems mid-maturity, but has yet to develop much nuance. Very enjoyable, and despite the torrid heat in 2003, this seems restrained and balanced next to more recent vintages of CdP.
