Touch of bretty character on the nose with horse and earth. Palate also shows some brett as well but it isn't at the level which is it undrinkable. Fading slightly on the finish, this has some complexity but not enough fruit to carry it.

1981 Bordeaux (Bethesda, MD): Subtle nose of tobacco, dried rose petals, sous bois, and mushrooms. Somewhat thin wine that was, in my opinion, passed its prime. Despite this, it's in no way a bad wine, just lacks the structure and primary flavor profile that it probably once had.

Opened 1.5 hours prior to pouring, double decanted (bottle cleaned of sediment and dregs poured through coffee filter). Nose first showed heavy tones of saddler and tobacco above all else but it calmed with the time after opening. Lots of sous bois and wet mushrooms developed with hints of the tobacco and leather. Some hints of lead pencil and cigar, but the palate still has a refined and smooth feel, albeit lacking in grip and fruit depth. A solid 30 year old Bordeaux that may be a touch past its best, but holding on admirably.
