Excellent value (especially if discounted at Waitrose in the UK which it often is). Lots of oak but it does not overwhelm the delicate strawberry fruit.

I had long associated Rioja with woody rasping things, perhaps because of unfortunate experiences with poorly made ones. With this one, as I noted before, the slightly pale colour and bouquet of floral perfume and dank woodland is redolent of the burgundian. Then there is the predominant strawberry fruit, smooth and quite basic, no roughness or astringence. A great value for sure.

I'm just a little bit surprised that this one has not caught on like many other low cost Spanish wines; but perhaps that's because it doesn't have the Jordonez label. it's also very different from the plummy earthy combo popular with many, bending towards a paler, strawberry less earthy but quite smooth finish.

Rich cherry and vanilla flavors along with berries, orange, spice and maybe some mineral. An acidic bite and tannin seems easy going.
