My wine-tasting buddy, Marji, and I finally got to visit a couple wineries in the lower Hudson Valley/Shawangunk area. We'd been looking forward to White Cliff since we'd tasted some of their wines at the Berkshire Hudson Wine Fest.
All of WC's wines are vegan.
The Awosting is an off-dry blend of Seyval Blanc and Vignoles. Off-dry to my taste (I prefer sweeter wines) - I notice that someone else reviewed it as on the sweeter side.
I bought a bottle of this, and tasted alone at home, first sip was tart homemade lemonade.
Paired it on two evenings: first: grilled shrimp, grilled squash, and croissant; second with "Thanksgiving soup" - most of the leftovers from T'giving dinner (soup's been frozen, of course) and half a grilled cheddar/tomato on sourdough.
Drier than my preference; pleasant, but nothing to make me want to purchase it again.

  • Unknown blend of Sauvignon and Seyval Blanc, native grape of Hudson Valley, NY.

Medium light straw color. Clear and transparent.

Clean nose of peach, lemon, tangerine.

Uplifting palate with medium plus acidity and expressive fruit profile of similar characters to the aromatics. Refreshing finish.

Honest and straightforward. Nothing fancy but it doesnt need to be. 87

  • Rehoboth Beach Grill-Out (Rehoboth Beach, Delaware): Honey and kiwi on the nose and palate, with some white pepper and spice elements. Crisp, a bit sweet, fun and crowd-pleasing stuff, but not complex. A blend of Vignoles and Seyval Blanc.

  • Similar to a riesling; smelled like a sauvignon blanc but tasted sweeter; crisp

  • Medium golden in color. On the nose there was green apple and a little minerality with some honey on the tail end. On the palate I got green apple and a little kiwi which transitioned into a honey sweet mix with little to no finish. This wine was a bit thin with not much depth but it was drinkable. This was a decent wine.
