(Ameztoi Txakolina, Getaria) Ameztoi is one of the top producers of Getariako Txakolina, with about 50 acres under vine in the best locations of Spanish Basque country. The iconic winemaker, Ignacio Ameztoi, is part of the seventh generation to carry on the family tradition. Txakolina wines, blended from the indigenous grape varieties of the white Hondarribi Zurri and the red Hondarribi Beltza, display a fresh, crisp style with residual carbon dioxide, making them lovely aperitifs. This was a great pairing with fish tacos. Lime for days. I was seriously tempted to just pour it on the tacos instead of using fresh lime. Lots of green, a touch of salt, & a steely edge. I read a tasting note of "barnacles" on a description of Hondarrabi Zuri and I think I actually understand it now!

I'm continuing to find these wines overcarbonated. The fruit is so bright and fresh that it doesn't need the fizziness to give it refreshment value, and I'm finding the leftovers the next day consistently better, when the fizz calms down to a subtle briskness. That said, it's tasty stuff with an almost Alpine purity. I don't find in it the intense mineral expression other people seem to find... if it's showing any of that at all it's more like a saltiness than a rockiness.

Killer wine. Pure. Clean. Balanced. Really good minerality. It has a greenness to it in a good way. Also kind of a spritzy lemon flavor. The rose has more acidity but this is still bright. Like a kissing cousin to muscadet. One to buy by the boxful. A De Maison import.
