Italian night (Washington, DC): Tasted blind. A lot of us thought this was a Tuscan coastal blend. Nope, all Merlot from. Lots of sunshine, roasted herbs, spiced coffee. Earthy, complex, still plenty of time ahead.

Blind OLD WORLD GRAB BAG - Dino Restaurant (Washington, DC): Dark red to black in color. Nose of blackberry, black plum, smoke, graphite. Palate of black fruits, graphite, and some decent complexity going on and there was noticeable tannins. Was a big wine, would have never guessed Merlot or Italy either.

Old World Grab Bag (Dino Restaurant, Washington, DC): Tasted blind - meat and gravel on the nose, olives on mid palate, huge tannins, full bodied with super long finish. Impressive, and shocked to find out it was Merlot at sub $20 price point. QPR wine of the night for sure.

Old World Grab Bag (Dino Restaurant - Washington, DC): Clearly the biggest wine of the night. Tannic as an m'fer. A real ballbuster. But very complex. Incredibly dark, pure fruit on this. Plums and graphite lead me to think S. Rhone. Never would have guessed Merlot, let alone Italy.
