  • From magnum, this had lovely spice and was quite elegant. One of the better 2006 reds I have had in a while, and one of the better Vogue wines. This is quite approachable, and should drink well for some years.

  • 2006 Burgundy Dinner (Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck, Paragon): A decently good wine in its own fashion, but this suffered badly from being served together with an ethereally beautiful bottle of Drouhin's 2006 Amoureuses. The nose here was very Vogue in character - deeper and richer than the Drouhin, it gave aromas of dark cherries and blueberries, spice, earth and crushed violets. A thick and heady bouquet, but really quite attractive. The palate was rather out of step with the nose though. The depth was there, and a surprisingly amount of power, but there was something just a bit drying and tough beneath its otherwise juicy black cherry flavours. Finish was pleasant, with a little kiss of spice and crushed flowers. All in all, decently good, but lacking the grace and elegance one would expect from an Amoureuses. A bit disappointing given how nicely this showed in its youth. Given the trajectory of the wine's development, I would probably drink this sooner rather than later.

  • The loser of the flight, owing to its youth. Oak is excessive at this stage, and it lacks the complexity of the older wines in the tasting. However, there is a core of serious fruit, and I suspect it will become elegant when the oak integrates. I would have no interest in opening a bottle in less than 8 years, it's really a baby.

  • Long spell at work, could not resist opening this Friday night. Popped and poured. Pristine cork. Shimmering deep ruby color. Nose a proverbial shot across the bow indicating a serious wine, showing immediate scents of violets, anise, forest floor, cinnamon, licorice, and soy. Beautiful, vivacious red raspberry, mulberry, and dark cherry fruit on the palate with a fast second wave of underbrush, iron flecks, anise, and earth. Strong but filed-off tannins balanced by bracing acidity and all that fruit. Delectable finish of freshness, lively red fruit, iron, and grip. Ah, Les Amoureuses.
