This is still a bit young, but big bold and tasty. Dark ripe pinot fruit with full expanisve palate coating flavor. This needs time for the nose to develop and the tannins to integrate, but very good now. Drink over the next 5 years+...AM
First Night...90 Pts, and an average/poor QPR. Muted nose, after 3+ hours giving: slightly earthy, no fruit to speak of, and a hint of menthol that was nice. Maybe this is way too young or maybe it just does not have the stuff. Palate was medium/full with ripe cranberry and red fruit, finish was longish and balanced. This wine has checked all the right boxes, but just misses being great. Drink over the next 5?? years. This one will be interesting. I remember the first bottle being very primary and delicious, maybe this is in a dumb phase? Alex
Second Night...92 Pts, Stored on the counter with the cork stuck back in tightly. This expanded incredibly, giving blackberrys and spice on the nose. Palate added weight, depth and length. More rich Black fruit, and totally lost the cranberry thing. Decant or wait...Alex
92+ Pts. This is a very tasty stuff. Beautiful color and a wonderful red burgundy nose. Little stemmy, earthy with soft red fruit, the type of nose that makes your mouth water. Balanced on the palate with a great sour cherrys and earth. Spicy with great clove notes that add interest. Nice soft tannins and less acidity than I've seen in most '06s. Best thing about this wine is the finish, goes on for 30+ seconds, and makes you take another sip. Recommended. Drink over the next 3-5 years...AMM
Decanted from split 40 minutes and opened more after 70 minutes. Enticing nose of cherries, pine, violets, gorgeous mushrooms and some earth. Creamy medium bodied fruit with mineral and almost tart acidity. Good, approaching overly firm tannins, but drinking really well. The tannins and forward fruit made this pair well with rack of lamb/large white beans. This tremendous 'village' wine was enjoyable now, but I'm sure will age well.
