  • This was the second of two bottles of this '02 and both were free of premox. Hurrah! Colour brilliant light gold. Nose well developed with white fruit and flowers with a touch of cedar. The medium bodied palate seemed a bit disjointed at first with lively fruit, abundant minerals, lively acidity and underlying buttery and caramel tinged roundness seeming in separate strands but with a little air exposure it integrated beautifully and developed a long finish with the butter and caramel receding. This is how a 14 year old Meursault lieu-dit cru should taste. Very good.

  • 13 year old white Burg which tastes as it should seems to be such a rare wine type nowadays that there is a risk of over-praising it but I think that I am on target here by rating this as very good. Lightish gold colour and lovely nose of white fruit and flowers with hints of honey and cigar box. The palate was medium bodied with typically creamy fruit, fresh acidity, attractive stony minerals, underlying roundness and backbone supporting a decently long finish. What a relief after at least a dozen bottles of white Burgs, mainly 96s, poured down the sink in the last 12 months, which should have tasted like this or even better.
