From a nice looking bottle with a bottom neck fill, Nicolas cuvee. The wines center was medium, light red with orange & tan rims. The nose was very refined at first and focused on mocha. As the wine aired it developed a distinct provencal herb that had me wondering where this wine was headed! After a couple of hours of air the herbs morphed back into tobacco and added a lively complexity to the mocha and cherries.
The mouth went though its own evolution as it was very soft and refined at first, then got a bit disjointed, and then came together again to taste like a refined 30+ year old Burgundy. It was silky in texture but had fine grained tannin that hung in your mouth, helping to create great length. Spectacular!
