This went skiing and the chalet liked this wine. Great blackcurrant, good notes of tobacco and choc. Fruit forward but there is more to this wine if you let it breathe and warm a little. Like many 03s, don't pop and pour unless you want to reaffirm the stereotype of the vintage.
Decanted two hours before drinking. Beautiful and très Bordeaux bouquet with good cassis, graphite and lovely smoky oak. Same on the palate plus other dark berry fruits, good acidity and round tannin. The wine is completely ready now and will probably stay on this level until 2018 at least. I have one more bottle, so there will be a follow up.
Fourth bottle of a case - never seen a temp above 53 since acquisition upon release. Like many 2003's basically a fruit bomb, although a fine one. Beautiful cabby cassisy black fruit across the mid palate without much if any complexity ( and it will never in my view develop complexity) - no cigar box, no cedar, etc. - just rich tasty fruit. Like many 2003's in my experience (twice with this wine) the fruit bomb makes it a wow drink for those who are not particularly knowledgeable about wine, but it also makes it a fine and acceptable drink for those who are very much into wine. Has surprising length given its pedigree but at the end I get that tip of the tongue acid note that I associated with acidifying. Have really well stored bottles of this wine? They will keep just fine.
