  • Tons of tobacco, some funk and cheddar cheese on the nose. Tobacco throughout the flavor. Still has some acid. Very dark and chocolatey style overall. Drinkable, not our style.

  • 3/6/2015 rated 90 points: shared with pat at selkirk manor to celebrate the end of the work week. selected this bottle since a recent member note indicated that the wine was fully mature. my current bottle proved to be more youthful with a spicy overlay on typical plummy malbec fruit. the wine has not changed much since we last tasted this wine on 3/2015. the wine still shows beautifully. it is rich and full in the mouth. given my experience with the slow maturation trajectory, it seems that the wine could easily continue to drink well for at least another year, if not more. this is a better than average argentine malbec from a reliable producer. should have bought more. will look for more recent vintages.

  • Aged to its full potential - this is a medium plus bodied delight now showing some lovely leathery aged goodness along with its tart cherry earthy flavors.

  • Cork failed and had to be rescued with an Ahso and then the last bit pushed back which made for a not good start. PnVnD let air for 1hr. Deep dense saturated purple colour with a dark plum to clear rim. Blackberry red and black currants dust espresso lavender and black licorice on the nose. Medium weight with velvety tannins with a bit of black tea grip. A compelling mix of ripe black fruits and vibrant red fruits on the palate with tar espresso and licorice. Deep balanced and complex. A lot of life ahead despite the cork failure.

Two night later after being sealed in the fridge and allowed to come back to room temperature. Shows a bit tired and slightly oxidized on balance I would go back and say drink up despite thinking there was lots of life ahead based on the first night.

(Bodega Colomé Malbec Estate) 85% Malbec, 8% Tannat, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon; 15.5% alcohol. Using only Colomé grapes, including a few from the 1854 vineyard, this wine is aged for 18 months in new and 1-year-old French and American oak. Like many other Argentine reserve Malbecs, it's an astonishing value that really shows its stuff with food. The 2006 version is deep violet with a magenta rim; the complex nose displays black cherry, black plum, blackberry, vanilla, baking spices, pepper, and violets. A dusty minerality and moderate acidity complement the soft tannins and fine texture. Spice and alcohol notes dominate the finish. Terroir: Colomé

(Bodega Colomé Malbec Estate, Salta) This blend of 85% Malbec, 8% Tannat, and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep perfume of blackcurrant, mulberry, boysenberry, black cherry, black soil, wet forest, and tar. On the palate, Colomé’s lovely red starts off sweet and soft, with dark-fruit, earth, and spicy oak notes; then, the Argentine trifecta of oak tannins, fruit tannins, and brilliant natural acidity race to the finish line, winning with grip and balance. Special Report: Argentina
