  • Fantastic aged Bordeaux - a beautiful wine from a great vintage and showing all the hallmarks of a classic - cigar box, undergrowth and clean drying (but not too astringent) tannins. Excellent bottle.

  • From an excellent looking bottle, this wine had a deep red center and orange rims. The medium+ intensity nose showed black cherries, clay soil, and brown spices.

In the mouth, this wine was very smooth and refined at first but went through a couple stages as it aired. It was a dry, serious wine with solid acidity and notable rounded tannin. Not surprisingly, it reminded me of the 1959 Montrose.

While it had nice complexity, I think this wine was probably better 20 years ago. If you drink it with just a little air you won't get all the complexity. After 3-4 hours of air, it did not have quite enough fruit on the bones. Would it have been better after 6-10 hours of decanting?
