  • I won't give this a vote because our group was divided. The wine had powerful aromas of dried red cherry and a musty, dusty earthiness. Several abandoned the wine when the mustiness did not blow off after 20 minutes or so. Several others continued. It was savory, with dark cherry flavors, a silky, sweet texture, and still plenty of acid, good length and a spicy, bittersweet finish.

  • An SG 50 celebratory dinner at Jade Palace. Dark red, touch of brown at the rim, with a rather cloudy look. This was quite beautifully matured. Dried roses, violets, pomegranate, earth and sour cherries. Good acidity on the palate, holding decently well. Again, like the Vogue Musigny 78, quite some savoury and soy like notes, with earth, funk and touch of barnyard. Sour cherries, plums, strawberry jam and coffee beans, with a long finish but just tiring a little after a couple of hours. My first ever Mugnier Musigny.

  • After 26 years trailing the 'regular' cuvee, the extra heft and intensity given by the old vines has now shone through. Whereas the regular bottling (still a very good effort) shows some of the vintage's structure a bit too openly, the VV masks it beneath luscious dark fruits. This is still on the upswing, and will make a great, very long-lived Musigny.

  • Purchased off list at Hearth in NYC. Nose was sweet red fruit with a slight edge to it. Lighter bodied and smooth, I recall complex layers of spice, earth, and red fruit. Very good with dinner.
