Folks, it is time to start popping some of your 01s. This currently is light years ahead of 00 LR. In fact, I need to start digging through my stash and find 01 Lalande and Las Cases. This 01 Lafon Rochet is in a magical spot and I do not see any improvement coming, though no rush. Essential aged St Estephe nose of green pepper (mild), earth, tobacco, cassis, and pencil. Very nice palate, if lacking a bit of fruit, but really a joy to drink. Complete satisfaction, especially for the price - though I still contend that 03 is their greatest wine yet...and grab every bottle of 1996 that you can find. 91 Pts
Had with Sunday roast lamb and beef. No formalized notes. Decanted for 1 hr and consumed over next two. Surprisingly still vibrant in colour meaning still lots of life left. Smooth tannins little on the nose but pleasant to drink.
nose - cherry, earthy, nicely fragrant with time mouth - a bit blunted on the attack, but a very nice, mature and complex midpalate of red fruit and soil, with dry rather austere tannins and a nice tinge of dried cherry on the finish. I suggest drinking this over the next year or so.
Dark purple colour. Really complex both aromatically and on the palate - red fruits, blackberry, chargilled capsicum, earth, leaf, tobacco and chocolate. Medium weight but good fruit intensity. Persistant and mouthfilling flavour. Needs food. Drinking well now - no need to wait any longer.
