  • Onion skin color. Barely any bubbles like a rich still rose. Dried red date, prune apricot, honey syrup, nutty with hint of marzipan. Palate with refreshimg acidity, toffee, caramelised sour plum and honey notes. Round and Delicious.

  • Original release. Bottle in good but not pristine condition. Cork felt a touch loose, but came out with a pop and there was plenty of foam on pouring. Coppery gold. Initially pungent nose, almost unpleasant - deep inhalation overwhelming. Then sweet and thick, nutty biscuits, some coffee, and candied fruit. Good taste, with bright acidity and orange fruit, the overall impression is open and crisp. Mildest bitterness/herbal astringency on the finish.

Interesting to compare this to the white '82 (Collection/late disgorged) version I had a few days ago. I would say that smelled better, but this has a more pleasant flavour. Overall this just edges it, and was cheaper to boot. It won't improve with further age, but it should last a while yet, if stored well. Edit: marked up +1 as it developed nicely over a couple of hours, becoming better integrated and cleaner, with a lovely vibrancy of fruit.

My oldest vintage rosé to date. [Cork + cage; no abv indicated but the white vintage was 12.5%; Barber Wines, £150].

  • A fine stream of bubbles. Strawberry jam is the dominant aroma with earth, smoke and cherry supporting. Medium intensity of flavour on the palate with good acid support. With a persistent finish, this was very tasty.
