I was once chided on a wine board (which shall remain nameless) by one of its arbiters of taste for posting a note on a Barbera. The grape just isn't hipster enough. Yet I'm seldom disappointed when I open a bottle. This is a case in point. Tasty red fruits backed up by a juicy acidity, it will go well with pizza or a casual dinner of leftovers. A forgiving variety: you can drink them young or let them age; you can pop and pour or linger over a bottle and you can enjoy one in the heat of summer or the chill of winter. Moderately priced.
Very closed at first. Unfortunately it did not open up much with time in the glass, not even after one day in the fridge. Nice acidity but otherwise quite uninteresting. Some cherries, liqourice and Cotes du Rhone type-aromas.
