Tasted over 2 hrs and day 2 -nearly opaque inky deep dark red no bricking -aromatic rich ripe spicy dark pinot fruit right out of the gates then closes up a bit and develops a subtle stoniness -med/med- acidity, med/med+ weight remnants of ripe dark cherry are evident with a little earthiness but not much else, finishes with some grippy med tannins and a bit of oak; rather dull on day 2 -nice nose, slightly rustic and foursquare, may still have some upside to further integrate especially if some tertiary elements pop up to add some complexity; overall disappointing for a 2005 Vosne 1er - even if it is Chaumes

Dear Domaine d’Ardhuy, This should really be better. We mean, Vosne 1er Cru from arguably the best vintage ever. Yet, it is not up to scratch. Starts off more like a nebbiolo, and lacks any trace of Vosne spice.

Very dark; black-fruited, robust and extracted. meaty, black, long but nothing "pretty" here. "Iron fist with brass knuckles rather than a velvet glove".

(d'Ardhuy Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes) Medium cherry-red. You are greeted by wide, concentrated and bright nose, faintly alcoholic with red and black fruit and a gradually developing creamy background - perhaps a hint of green pepper is the only clue to ‘vosne’. Lovely texture and concentration, the tannins are completely enveloped by the ripe fruit, but enough freshness remains. A slow diminuendo of a finish rolling on with the acidity. At the right price, this is an easy rebuy.

Geeze this is so so marginal. What a disappointing way to end 13 years of aging a wine
Thin, minimal vosne spice (would have been nice to have that against Christmas stuffing), minimal fruit and an awkward finish.

Still big and primary, and wonderful fruit and nose.
