Ripe dark fruit balanced by earth and dark savories. Light smoky notes provide depth. Smooth on the palate. Seemingly younger than its age. Hints of herbal tones on the palate. A solid showing for this wine. Consumed with cheese.
Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle Vertical Tasting 1969 - 2010 (Regional Wines and Spirits, Wellington, New Zealand): Quite developed hue - 50% ruby, 50% brick. Light, round nose of earth, red ripe fruit, leather, and old oak. Beautiful palate texture! Savory and smokey, game, undergrowth. Lean, but involving finish.Top class. This is a beautiful and fully mature La Chapelle. Perhaps the old oak/savory ash nature sticks out a bot but it is beautiful The wine had a great transformation in the glass with air - vivid and alive. All were stunned when this was announced as the 1969. Amazing showing.
