Fill: 1,9 cm. Perfect cork came out in one piece. Just a short decant to get rid of some sediments. Drank from Zwiesel Conterno Sensory glas. A classic mature nose; roses, tar, licorice, tobacco, mushrooms and old wood. A complex nose and such a delight to enjoy! On the palate a sweet and sour fruit profile with dried roses and herbs. A lifted mid palate with a balanced acidity. Tannins have mellowed down, just whispering about former structure and firmness. A very good finish with licorice and mushrooms. A very long finish indicates this is a perfect bottle, no drying out at the end or too advanced development. Lucky me!

Consumed at a great tasting at Da Umberto in NY alongside vintages 67, 05, 08, 09, 12 and 13. Excellent dinner with a knowledgeable group.
I had double decanted this about 1.5 hours before it was drunk.
To my taste both the 67 and 89 were well past their prime, with some oxidation on the nose and flavor, and generally thin and tired. They did improve with more time in the glass and started showing decent length and tertiary flavours but, for the price of these bottles, it was a disappointment.
The 08 and 05 were top picks for most of the group, both having matured into well rounded wines with deep secondary and tertiary flavours that balanced the acidity. The 08 retained some decent dark fruit flavours absent in the 05 and was my preference. The 12 and 13 were dominated by the high acid and needed quite a bit more time in the cellar.

My experience reflects exactly the previous note. The older Bartolo bottles are really a crapshoot

Dibbs's birthday celebration: Still identifiable as Nebbiolo but unfortunately oxidised.
