Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 87.4 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 21 notes)

Tasted by mkbabs on 5/1/2010 & rated 86 points: Crisp, citrus predominated. Others tasted broader array of fruit. Typical CH, good QPR. (129 views)
Tasted by OneLastSyrah on 4/6/2010 & rated 86 points: 14.2% ABV. Light straw in the glass - on the pale side. High toned white citrus and a bit of something like yeast. Crisp tangy green apple and citrus flavors. Not bad, but not great. (205 views)
Tasted by merlot78 on 4/6/2010 & rated 88 points: Love Margaret River Chardonnay. Fresh, clean and tropical undertones. (173 views)
Tasted by knops on 4/6/2010 & rated 89 points: (145 views)
Tasted by merlot78 on 3/12/2010 & rated 88 points: Typical Margaret River Chard. Full body, lush, and very smooth (270 views)
Tasted by ChrisBeacham on 2/22/2010 & rated 86 points: Lovely little Chardonnay with none of the excess or spoffiness one finds on inexpensive Chards (317 views)
Tasted by knops on 2/17/2010 & rated 89 points: (277 views)
Tasted by merlot78 on 2/11/2010 & rated 88 points: Beautiful Chard. Had with cheese and crackers and appetizers. It seems to me that any Chard from the Margaret river area is great. (363 views)
Tasted by OneLastSyrah on 2/5/2010 & rated 87 points: 14.2% ABV. Rather pale, light straw in the glass for Chardonnay. Yeast. Light toasted cereal and chalky soil. Medium bodied with white fruit tending toward pear and a medium crisp finish. Re-tasting this the next day it seemed a little tangier. Pretty good but I like some other Chardonnays in this price range better. (409 views)
Tasted by merlot78 on 1/29/2010 & rated 88 points: Nice fruit. A very clean Chard. Very easy to drink. Really enjoyed (410 views)

Tasted by DanSm on 9/6/2008 & rated 85 points: This bottle seemed rather "lemony." (902 views)
Tasted by DanSm on 8/7/2008 & rated 88 points: (765 views)
Tasted by DanSm on 7/19/2008 & rated 88 points: Good QPR (975 views)
Tasted by DanSm on 7/10/2008 & rated 88 points: Nice.....on a great Colorado summer evening at Villa Hacienda (1001 views)
Tasted by DanSm on 6/16/2008 & rated 88 points: The prior two reviewers are spot on. There is an interesting tropical flavor underneath that is rather exotic or erotic. :-) Paired with salmon and a wilted spinach and walnut salad. This wine is extremely balanced and food friendly. (1066 views)
Tasted by Zoeldar on 6/6/2008 & rated 85 points: New bottling for CH, so you're never sure what to expect. This proved to be a competent if somewhat ordinary Oz Chard. Done on a cleaner "Chablis"-like style, with solid fruit, low malo, and crisp finish. No where near as interesting as his recent CA Chards...this is a simple, solid Chard that is a good QPR and food-friendly.

Tasted by Acohen on 5/9/2008 & rated 89 points: Nice lighter chardonnay with nice acidity and fruit. Not too much oak and good fruit and finish. (1175 views)

Lot 68 Vintage: 2007 Appellation: Margaret River Grape: Chardonnay Alcohol by volume: 14.2% Production: 2,000 cases Release date: April 22, 2008 Availability: Online Only

Taste: The nose of this delicate chardonnay from Western Australia explodes with tropical fruit full of kiwi, lemon zest, peachy aromas and a wet stony minerality. A floral bouquet resonates with the fresh fragrance of spring that is complemented with full peach notes and a flinty, seashell minerality on the palate. On a blind taste, even the expert connoisseur could easily mistake this wine for a neutrally oaked Chablis. The finish envelopes a refreshingly crisp, lemony citrus (the wine is well supported with acidity) with a toasty kiss of French oak. Close your eyes and let the finish linger as lemon custard comes to mind. A clean, bright, fresh wine with just a hint of oak. Enjoy with oysters, clams or whitefish preferably on a warm day.

Cameron Confidential: Australia is often noted for oaky, fruit bomb Chardonnays but the cooler climates produce world class wine. The best Chardonnays in Australia currently hail from Margaret River though other regions such as the Mornington Peninsula and Adelaide Hills are coming on strong.

Lot 68 is a straight-forward great deal from an Australian producer looking to expand their business in the US. We hope to continue our relationship with this producer and up the quantities in the future (we would have taken 10,000 cases of this wine if it had been available). This is a gorgeous style of chardonnay reminiscent of Lot 59 so if you liked that wine then you’ll definitely want to try Lot 68.
