Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.4 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 29 notes)

Tasted by Anonymous on 12/25/2009 & rated 92 points: very nicely balanced. Good nose and good legs. The wine looked good in the glass and had a nice syrah nose. Didn't taste like the fruit bomb shiraz/syrah wines from Australia. Much more refined with a long finish. Very nice bottle. We opened two and both were excellent. (144 views)

Tasted by grafstrb on 11/6/2009 & rated 93 points: -- popped and poured --
-- TN from Day 2, after bottle was re-corked and put in fridge over night --
-- tasted non-blind --
-- 85% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre, 5% Grenache --

NOSE: dark purple fruits and blueberries; campfire smoke; oak. The aromas are intoxicating here, as the fruit is at the forefront (as opposed to the oak); almost fresh-smelling.

BODY: lots of fine particulate matter; rustic garnet - purple color of great depth; medium-full bodied.

TASTE: smoky; oak is there, but not overpowering; glycerin mouthfeel; reminds me a lot of their Dirt Worshipper; smooth tannins; dark fruits; probably has a high pH; finish lasts a long time, but the intensity falls off considerably after about 30 sec. -- finish lingers for a good 30 sec. beyond that, however; hints of spice; a bit alcoholic tasting (15.2%). Overall, this really hits my sweet spot for CA Syrah. Drinking great now, so I don't see the point in sitting on these for very long. Almost scored this 94.

Tasted by pkbackman on 9/19/2009 & rated 91 points: A very complex Syrah, that had a real lot going on. Spicy fruit and bramble. No fruit bomb here at all, which was nice. (433 views)
Tasted by Mr.Spock on 9/4/2009 & rated 88 points: upon opening was blasted with fruit and french oak. well balanced and hit at the back on the finish. drank at the gorgeous outdoor hollywood bowl venue. (476 views)

very good syrah. Nice nose of smoked meats, spice and dark fruit. Taste is similar to the nose. Very well balanced but could use some time in the bottle or a lot of air. (531 views)

Tasted by Zinister on 7/21/2009 & rated 92 points: Dark purple-red pour. Nose of blackberry, soft leather, tobacco and light oak. Flavor is upfront fruit of blackberry and blueberry jam. Pepper and earth flavors come near the end. Finish is smooth and fruit lingers in the mouth after. Well rounded with good depth and balance...just wonderful. (670 views)
Tasted by goofy Yno on 7/18/2009 & rated 90 points: great nose- deep dark fruits, tar, licorice, mouth was lagging a bit, slightly disjointed, nice fruit, tight, a little heat. much better than last time (689 views)
Tasted by goofy Yno on 7/16/2009: cherry nose with a touch of heat, mouth unbalanced with heat and bitterness. bought from store after a "good friend" told me I missed out from not loading up on this vintage. (671 views)

Tasted by rdelf on 6/21/2009 & rated 91 points: Interesting nose, fruit and earth and a touch of something funky. Jammy upfront with more complexity then you would imagine, pencil in the finish and long through the mouth.. velvety. (1032 views)
Tasted by Frank Murray III on 6/15/2009: 2007 Novy Syrah Party + A Pile Of Other Things (The Murray Casa): Also got drained during the event. Had a bit of a funky nose with blue fruit, crunchy red fruit and fair bit of acidity. Did not get the chance to revisit a second time during event so consider notes here accordingly. (888 views)
Tasted by kstoddard on 6/9/2009 & rated 94 points: Dark purple color. Blackberry fruit nose with some French oak. Tastes of blueberry, blackberry, tobacco and pepper. Fruit forward style. Very well balanced with bright acidity. Full bodied. Incredible core of fruit in the mid palate. Beautiful finish with excellent depth and complexity. Denner hit one out of the park with this one. Highly recommended. A blend of 85% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre and 5% Grenache. 15.2% alcohol. (874 views)

Tasted by grafstrb on 11/1/2008 & rated 91 points: -- tasted non-blind, outside, at winery --

No detailed notes on this one, but I do remember liking it more than the 2005 Syrah. Brighter fruit than the '05, more complex, and not as flabby as the '05. I scored the '05 at 90 points, which would make this a 91-92, by comparison. (1154 views)
