Deep purple magenta med+ stain. Some tiny flecks of sediment. Tart, ripe, and jammy briary fruit- blackberry, raspberry. Spices of cinnamon, pepper, clove and mod+ grippy tannins give this Zinfandel a decidedly Shiraz-like flavor, or a super ripe St. Joseph. Beautifully made and expressive, beyond the cali zin typicity.

Dark crimson. Plum and pepper nose. Dusty for a Zinfandel. 15.6% alcohol well disguised. More brambly-woodsy than most, not as overtly juicy or fruity.

A far cry from the 2009 Highwire we drank in April, this lacked the exuberant fruit. However, this was still quite good as it improved over time. This opened up dry and tannic, but the fruit showed and balanced the wine over time. I recommend at least a 1 hr decant prior to drinking. Aromas and flavors of pepper, dried red fruit, oak, bramble, cherry, and a slight smokiness. Firm tannins, dry -- don't hold this one for much longer, as I expect the fruit to recede and tannins to win out.

This is drinking superbly at this stage. Lovely and peppery. A terrific Zin.

Deep purple, tannic - very zinfandel with only modest fruit but several years of life left.
