Not giving a rating. Decanted for 3 hours before dinner, yet found the wine to still be opening up as we finished dinner. It was very nice with short ribs, but a little closed. The fruit did not come through until the bottle was nearly gone. Don't know enough if this was a dumb phase, or just needed more time in cellar/decanter. Rating would be good, but I would probably under-rate the true potential of this wine.
For me this wine really flirted with a 90+ rating but it's not quite there yet. This thing had an amazing candy nose. Drank it with a friend and he nailed it when he said "Juicy Fruit". I liked that on the nose but appreciated that it didn't come through on the palate. Drank the wine over 5 hours or so (including a 1 hour decant) and this thing changed personalities quite a few times during the course of the night. It started with some nice tannins but then all of a sudden it was muted fruit and jam, then the next minute the tannins came back, and then next we're back to the fruit. It really was impressive how many personalities this wine showed. But when all was said and done, I was left with a purple tongue and a bit of sadness when the bottle was done. Looking forward to seeing how my remaining bottles develop over the next few years.
