I came to this wine late. And it has mellowed. The opening is muted and the middle flat but hints of raisins or sultanas. Dried plum but sweetness has mellowed. I enjoyed it nonetheless. Interesting to see what happens after 12 years.

I am surprised at the relatively low community average score for this very well structured wine. We opened this from the dusty collection and thoroughly enjoyed it. It spent most of its time since it was bought in less-than-perfect cellaring conditions, although it was clearly good enough because the wine was spot on. On the plateau I would suggest, but great drinking still. I decanted it and left it perhaps an hour or so, but it really opened up completely in the glass. Incredibly smooth, long and languid, moving gently from the front to back of the palate, soft tannins, more white pepper than black, even a little clove in there, medium-bodied enough that there was a bit of raspberry in there to lighten it up. Beautiful on the nose - lots of red fruits with a cigar-like edge. Deep ruby colour without a hint of browning. Really lovely.

Still holding up nicely. Deep purple core. On the nose, black cherry, blueberry, beet, vanilla, caramel, cedar, licorice, some herbal notes. On the palate, same to the nose with velvety tannins and slightly peppery finish. Medium acidity and finish. At peak, drink it up.
