  • Tight at first, opens nicely. Black cherry, smoke, spice, lots of Gevrey earthiness. Unusually Betsy comments several times how much she likes. Great showing for a village wine from a modest vintage. A-/B+

  • Initially smelled of reductive oak (nutty), so I put it in a decanter. But then it looked quite pale and smelled fragile, so I quickly put it back in the bottle before pouring. When I finally got it in the glass, I was surprised to find a perfumed, velvety and medium-bodied wine. Classic undergrowth, but it tannins are starting to fade. After some 20 minutes, it startet to tighten up but was still very nice in a different way. But 20 minutes later, it was getting a bit scrawny and started showing some stemmy tones. The best 98 villages I've had, but there is no point in cellaring this any further.

  • Pale/medium garnet core, wide orangeing rim. Moderate intensity but fragrant nose showing red cherry, soil notes, plenty of spice including a note of ginger, and a hint of blackcurrant bud. Mellow and mature on the palate, medium bodied with attractive fresh acidity, moderate intensity with red cherry, spice and then soil notes on a medium length slightly tannic finish. A slight lack of ripeness here but still a nice wine, although perhaps was expecting a bit more. This may start to dry out - would drink over the next year or two.

  • Pale/medium garnet core, wide pale garnet rim. Dark cherry, earth, spice, a lot of leafy, forest floor and, unforunately, some cork taint. just a hint at first but becoming more prominent with time in glass. A shame - plenty of promise here.
