  Tasted alongside 1950 Cheval Blanc. It stands well against Cheval. Still lots of vitality abd vibrance. Sweet tobacco and smoky notes. Dried fruit and sweet vanilla and cocos notes. Very firm and fresh on the palate. Very good length.

  Incredible wine, still packing a real punch. Complex, layered, silky as only fully mature wines can do. Still plenty of spicy fruit and smoky earth to enjoy here. A real treat.

  Perfectly intact and an archetypal old wine. Smells like baked plums, damp tobacco, piquillo peppers, molasses, walnuts and old leather jackets. Has great volume and floats in cartesian space. A message from earlier humans. Magnificent, but my assessment hardly matters.

  An exceptional bottle. After a very short decant, the wine’s color deepened from medium tawny orange to deep garnet with a ruby core. The initial taste upon opening revealed a solid old rioja with the funk and sharpness expected of an old wine that would quickly come to life. It was poured immediately back into the bottle to sit for about 30 minutes. The wine was lovely and paired perfectly with dry aged ribeye, sour cream mashed potatoes and caprese salad. After pouring, it was in a golden zone for the first half of the meal, and then it began a gradual decline. It was still very good at the end, but it was quite magical for that initial 15 minute window.
