14%. Good color, medium red. Took 2 or 3 splash decantings for the fruit to appear, what little there was. Quite tertiary - mushrooms, muted cigar box / stale coffee / cocoa. For a barolo this seems prematurely aged. Purchased 2009 from Wine Library kept temperature controlled since. Maybe a consequence of the vintage and the style at the time. The winery might still have been in its modernist phase during this vintage; however from what I recall beginning the past decade or so they’ve dialed back on barriques and new wood. This vintage, this bottle: not a fan.

Muted nose, dried tea, tar, fading potpourri on the palate. Seemed a little tired, possibly a slightly off bottle. There was nothing obviously wrong, but it was pretty ordinary.

Mature. Hints of heat (2003), but not too bad, this is surely Barolo, tar, tannins, berries, smoke. Gains freshness with air. Very well made, went well with the lamb. Would not keep this much longer, though, it is still a semi-modern 2003.

This wine got lost in a diverse lineup. I often find this the case with italian wines that are fully mature. However, when these wines are consumed with appropriate food, they shine. This wine was soft with subtle tar and roses noted. It was well balanced and elegant. Will try this again with a nice pasta dish and it will shine. Second day after opening: Tasted again after being under cork for 2 days and with a pasta dish. As expected, the wine is much better and much more cherry flavors are noticeable. I wouldn't change my score, but I enjoyed it MUCH more with food.
