  • Deep bronze to mid gold in colour, remarkably fresh, lemongrass to lemon blossom with a touch of almond paste. Fairly intense aromas. The palate has an almost pithy, orange pith, fresh acidity, not as vibrant as previous examples, but no doubt more challenged by the hot year. Off-dry but melded nicely with the acid and fruit with riper, intense orange blossom and lemon verbena and hints of lavender honey. Much rounder than the usual offerings and showing pretty well at 17 years. Not hugely complex.

  • TN: Schloss Vollrads Riesling Spätlese AP 2 707 402 13 04 (cork-finished; the Kabinett from 2005 was glass-finished.) 9.5 pabv; $18/750 ml; Kroger, Englewood.

Wine was a touch browned and showed a some shelf-tiredness; not surprising as this wine had probably been out on that shelf for four years under lights at room temperature.

Still I'd give it an 85 for pleasure. Previous bottles showed considerable complexity, class and definition, and would have been in at about 91 points.

  • I agree with Vino Me. Solid, clean little wine. Recommended.

  • A very clean aromatic wine. Pear and peachy notes. Firm minerality. Most likely declassified fruit based on the sweetness and depth. 90 points.
