  • Very long cork, completely soaked through but it came out in one piece.
Medium amount of sediment which suggests the wine was lightly filtered before bottling.
Brilliant and medium dense garnet red; only the slightest touch of brick at the rim.
On the nose the wine offers an intense, very attractive, smell of cedar/cigar box/ exquisite Cuban tobacco.
On the palate this sensation continues, the wine has very good intensity and length with a touch of drying, dusty tannins at the end which takes slightly away from the overall, excellent, impression.
It is probably close to being its best.
comparing it to the 1996 Grand-Puy-Lcoste drank a week ago, it is certainly not as blatantly charming (made more in the old style) but is very attractive in a masculine, aristocratic way.
    A winner!

Longueur correcte.
    A boire.

  • Decanted for about 1.5h. Seemed more evolved than previous bottles. Plenty of leather and tobacco / cigar box. Drink up

  • Decanted two bottles for about 1h and took to BBQ. Still showing well with a healthy and fairly dark garnet. Some forest floor, dark and red fruit, fine tannins and short to medium finish. One bottle unfortunately slightly corked but drinkable. This will certainly last for a few more years.

  • Interesting wine, and my first truly mature Bdx that does not suffer under too much oak/cedar (for my taste). Did not manage to get the entirely soaked cork out in one piece but then very surprised by a rather youthful dark garnet almost entirely to the thin translucent rim. Bouquet of dark fruit, subtle leather and a bit of cedar and barnyard. Still has fine tannins. Short to medium finish. Great balance but it all seems a bit too muted / subtle. Curious to see whether there is some more secondary/tertiary flavors to come or whether the wine will gradually fade away from here, either way this wine seems 10 years younger than the 88 I had recently and will easily see it's 30th birthday in good shape.
