  • This was stunning. Still bright, fresh cherry and newly turned earth on the nose. Forward fruit, Bing cherry with hints of groseille. Super silky tannins, but still with some bite. Delicate underlying minerality. On the palate, this wine has an ethereal elegance. It dances on the tongue. You can't believe how big and ripe the fruit still is (how can this be an '85!) but it recedes into an earthy complexity when you try to focus on it. We bought this from Philippe Renaud who trades in caves in and around Beaune, like a Burgundian Sanford and Son. He held the bottle up to the window in his shop and said, "Good color. Cork looks okay. This will probably be good." Probably good? Superb would be an understatement.
