Community Tasting Notes (4)

  • PnP, then drunk over dinner with family, no TN.
This was in wonderful shape, very surprisingly so compared to the previous bottles I had. The nose was all tertiary, but very much alive and far from decaying, but the palate was stunning: presence, complexity, body, and all in a very harmonious, silky package. Wonderful wine!

  • Drunk over Christmas' lunch and opened a few hours in advance. It needed more.
The red color is fading towards orange/brick, but still there. Clear, but with quite a bit of sediment at the bottom. On the nose it had some musty notes for the first few hours. The leftovers on day 2 were much better and showed still some red fruit, together with undergrowth and sweet spices like lebkuchen. On the palate it is still lively and with good body. Fruit is still there. The last sips had a bitter finish.
Surprisingly nice, but it seems to me that to enjoy this at its best one should devote a whole day to it, open it in the morning and follow its evolution during the day to pick the best moment and decant it to separate the sediment just before finally drinking it.

  • The wine exhibited a translucent red hue with very little bricking. An amazing color for a wine of this age. The palate was medium-bodied with excellent fruit, purity and focus. I can only imagine what this wine was like 10 or 15 years ago. After 36 years it continues to drink with lots of soul.
