From half, this has really become quite dark. Apricot, orange zest, caramel nose. Well built on the palate. Really quite good - scratches the itch for Sauternes after a 52 Mouton Rothschild and a 64 Pichon Lalande (and a good value to boot). No complaints here... other than the absence of any Roquefort.
Drank over two weeks. Not very sweet. Darker and more Oxidized than I would have expected. Honey. Apricot. Blood orange. a good sauternes but far from the best considering 2001 has offered the best in a lifetime. I have one bottle remaining.
I still don't feel I can give a fair assessment in a score on Sauternes. This one was very smooth and elegant with flavors of pear, peach, and pineapple. It was very dark in color; I guess showing its age. The sweetness you often get in a young Sauternes has mellowed and toned down. This helps the wine show off its character and good breeding, rather than being rambunctious and in your face.
