  • Third time tasting and simply amazing again. Consistent with prior notes. Back up bottle in hand (Lp 2003 with coravin used following night) and opened at La Provence restaurant by sommelier. Perfect cork, moderate sediment stick to side of bottle. A tiny bit of metallic funky aroma and flavor which blew away less than 30 min after decant and Rock solid with incredible complexity and mouthfeel and a medium long finish for the 2+ hours at dinner. Remarkably youthful color with only a bit of light brick on the edge of light ruby core. Just so much going on here. Another amazing showing for this last night out with mom during her visit. She loved it! Thanks again, Dad. About as good as and older right bank wine can be for my taste. No rush but likely at peak or perhaps a little past if you like a lot of fruit. I would venture 96 on my non professional scale. Like many old Bordeaux wines this will not be in everyone’s zip code but it is in mine. Amazing with Lamb.

  • Deep ruby color with a distinct rust garnet hue. Robust completely tertiary nose of wild mushroom, earth, leather, meat, hint of warm pepper at end. Dry, mellow acidity, lean tannins, palate follows through (albeit not as nuanced and layered as I hoped). Full body, fantastic smooth balance, long lingering finish. Drink now.

  • Unbelievable showing for this wine. Perfectly stored in dad's cellar since release and base neck fill. I knew it was a sleeper from the prior tasting but this bottle was even better. We took it to Gilbert's steak house in Omaha. Opened with Durand and cork only half saturated and came out perfectly. Decanted and it had an immediate burst of blue fruit and some funk and a bit of metallic nose and flavor. After 20 min, most of the funk has blown off and the metallic aspect is gone and you are left with an aroma that makes it hard to take your nose out of the glass. Dark and youthful color. Modest sediment. Blue fruit domninates the aroma and some red and dark on the nose and the flavor with some truffle and flowers and some wet forest floor that move in and out as it is drank. Stable over almost 3 hours of sipping but just kept getting better with time in the glass. Just an incredible wine with the amazing steaks they have at Gilbert's and all agreed. I give it the slight edge over the Rauzan-Segla 82 which we opened right after that mainly because I think this wine is drinking at peak and has a long finish and so lots of life in it. It is the best bottle of this I have ever tasted. Yes, I gave it a 97 which is a huge score for a 1986 right bank but I really just loved it so much. Everyone at the table said "wow". If you like old right bank and you have stored this well, this is a real treat.

  • From a half bottle with top shoulder fill and (unfortunately) extremely dry cork. Smell quite pleasantly dominated by resin, forest honey, tar, rust and old newspaper. On the palate light and smooth with metallic, acidic tones and nicely drying out tannins in the end. Good drinkability but not much fruit left in this bottle. Better after an hour of air contact.

  • Bien meilleur que la dernière dégustation.
A retrouvé toute sa splendeur alors que la date limite de dégustation était annoncée à 2004.
17 ans après jugement exceptionnel unanime
