D3spite it’s age, started off a bit tannic and closed as you’d expect from a younger wine. Opened in the glass within 10-15 minutes. Not at all disagreeable, with just a whiff of old world funk on the nose. Solid dark cherry fruit on the palate and grippy tannins. A bite of acid at the end is kind of sharp, but reminds you of the excellently balanced wine that this must have been in its prime.

Far better than the 2004 Northstar that is falling apart due to it's age. The 2005 is a compact and intense presentation of pure Merlot. Nothing special, but a good show of what Merlot is all about.
It will be interesting how long this one will be alive, regarding that it's older brother really had a age handicap.

Probably a little past its peak, this wine was still drinkable but fairly muted across the full palate experience. Some fruit, some oak, some acid, but not as much as you'd like of all these.

Pours very dark. The very strong oak blew off quickly revealing a nose of black fruits and alcohol. Eventually the alcohol blew off. Some port notes but most just nice pure fruit with a bit of cocoa on the finish. Soft, full integrated tannins.

Past it's prime, a bitter finish.
