Last wine of four over a dinner at Vintage Grill. Probably the right place in the line-up as the pepper from the zin seemed to dominate and, for me at least, wasn't that enjoyable. I would call this a fairly one-dimensional wine that has a decent QPR if you like simple pepper focused zins. I could see it going well with burgers on the grill for lunch.

Seemed a little flat and simple at first, but improved greatly once it opened up. Even before it opened, it was better with food, after it got some air it gained some structure, took on a little lushness and showed off its Zinfandel spice. Became a very nice red blend.

Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of smoke, currant and wet stones. Flavors of red currants, red berries and red plums. Light to medium acidity, medium tannins, light to medium body. Drink now.

Very weak bouquet on opening, and not much more on the palate. Mild dark fruit with a dry, oaky finish. Agree with the light, mild, smooth tannins, and balanced, moderate acidity, as well as the food friendliness (went OK with BBQ chicken), but I'm left with the overwhelming impression that there's no there there. Glad I didn't pay a lot.
